Daily Five

The Daily Five

Read to Self
Students select a text appropriate to their level and read to themselves. Students use strategies such as but not limited to word and sentence identification, picture prompts, and re-telling the story to aid in comprehension.
Read to a Partner
Students work with a partner to read a text. Students check for fluency and comprehension by asking questions and identifying what words are easy to understand and pronounce and what words are difficult.
Listen to Reading
Students listen to a book in order to understand how words should be pronounced. Students complete a follow up activity to check for comprehension.
Word Work
Students use a choice board with a variety of activities to complete vocabulary assignments.
Work on Writing
Students choose a writing activity to complete appropriate to their level. Some students may create lists, poems, short stories or narratives.
